There are two Gilfords in July. One of them is stuck on Route 11B behind a line of brake lights at 5:45 p.m., trying to get home before the opening act. The other one left the house at 4:30, took the back way past the Village Store, and is already on the porch with a cold drink. Same town. Same night. The difference is a calendar most residents keep in their heads and almost no visitor does.
If you live here, your summer isn't organized by the weather or the month. It's organized around two operating schedules that pull thousands of people through Gilford on very specific days. Learn them, and the season opens up. Ignore them, and you spend August wondering why you can't get a table at Ellacoya Barn & Grille on a Saturday.
The two schedules that actually run the summer
The first is the show calendar at BankNH Pavilion, an amphitheater in Gilford with a capacity of 8,300. On a concert night, that's roughly the population of Gilford itself arriving between 5 and 7 p.m., most of them funneling toward the main entrance off Route 11B at 72 Meadowbrook Ln.
The second is Gunstock's summer operating window. The Adventure Park runs Thursday–Sunday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. through August 30, 2026, then weekends only through November 1. That single schedule shift at the end of August is the hinge point of the whole Gilford summer, and almost no one who doesn't live here knows about it.
Everything else, the Village Store on Old Home Day morning, the wait for a picnic table at Ellacoya State Park, whether The Breeze has a booth open at 6:30, follows from those two calendars.
Concert-night arithmetic
The 2026 Pavilion lineup is unusually front-loaded with big draws. Here are the nights a Gilford resident should plan around, not through:

Two things about that list are worth internalizing. First, the Pavilion is Live Nation's flagship New England amphitheater, and it sells out. Luke Bryan kicks off the season on May 29th and 30th, the weekend after Memorial Day, and by the time you're reading this in mid-July the season is essentially locked in.
Second, the parking-lot experience is regulated more tightly than newcomers expect. The venue promotes responsible tailgating, but possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in the parking areas actually violates a local Gilford ordinance. That's a detail worth knowing if you're the resident whose out-of-town friends are coming up for a show and assuming standard amphitheater rules.
The venue also has small local touches that reward repeat visitors. Sawyer's Ice Cream, a local favorite since 1945, partners with the Pavilion to serve homemade ice cream to concertgoers all summer. If you're going with kids, that's the move.
Gunstock, and why Thursday is the new Saturday
The Adventure Park's Thursday–Sunday schedule is the second lever Gilford residents pull. From your driveway you can be at Gunstock Mountain Resort at 719 Cherry Valley Rd in under fifteen minutes, and on a Thursday morning in July you're competing with campers, not weekenders.
What's actually running up there right now:
- The ZipTour, a guided 90-minute experience on one of the longest zipline networks in the continental United States at 1.6 miles total, where guests control their own speed up to 70 mph
- The Aerial Treetop Adventure, eight high-ropes courses with 81 challenge features, including an Explorer Course for children ages 6–11
- The mountain coaster
- Scenic chairlift rides on the Panorama lift
- The 262-site campground, operating daily from May 22 through October 18
The campground is the piece that changes everything about summer traffic on Cherry Valley Road. When those 262 sites are full, the base area is essentially a small village. Which is why locals treat the shoulder weekdays as the actual prime time.
After August 30 the operating pattern flips. Weekends only, Saturday and Sunday, through November 1, 2026. That's the window when a resident can send visiting family up for the coaster on a Saturday and know the parking lot won't be at capacity by 10:15.
The one weekend Gilford closes ranks
Circle Saturday, August 29. The 2026 Old Home Day Celebration takes place on Saturday, August 29th, which lands the same weekend the Adventure Park is finishing its Thursday–Sunday run and the Pavilion is between shows. If you moved here in the last year and haven't been, this is the one.
The morning starts with the 5K. The race begins at 8 a.m. in front of the Gilford Village Store, and parking is at Gilford Elementary or the Middle/High School. The parade, craft vendors, town events, and fireworks follow through the day. It is, without exaggeration, the day the town looks most like itself.
A softer bookend arrives the following weekend at Gunstock. From August 30 to September 7, 2026, the Gilford Craft Fair features over 100 juried artisans showcasing handmade jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and woodwork, with live acoustic performances and farm-to-table food trucks. Nine days is a long run for a craft fair, and it doubles as the informal Labor Week gathering for a lot of year-round families.
Where locals actually eat on show nights
The math on restaurants during a Pavilion night is simple. Anywhere within a ten-minute drive of the venue is full from 5 p.m. onward. Which means the resident play is either eat early, eat far, or eat late.
A few useful anchors, all in or adjacent to Gilford:
- Ellacoya Barn & Grille, consistently at the top of Yelp's Gilford list, is the one to book ahead on Mumford & Sons weekend.
- Patrick's Pub & Eatery, described by the pub itself as a Lakes Region landmark for great food, fun, and entertainment, is where locals stack up at the bar after a show lets out.
- The Breeze at 25 Dock Rd is the closest thing Gilford has to a locals' waterside lunch spot.
- Trillium Farm to Table and Tavern 27 work better for the quiet weeknights between shows.
- Gilford Village Store, the same building the Old Home Day 5K starts in front of, is the sandwich stop before a Gunstock morning.
- Beans & Greens Farm is the farm-stand play. Their stand-alone morning is worth building a Saturday around before the Adventure Park lot fills up.
None of that is a secret to a five-year resident, but the useful part is the sequencing. If you're going to a Friday show, book Ellacoya Barn for 5 p.m. or plan to eat at Patrick's at 9:30. Splitting the difference is how you end up at the drive-thru.
The quieter beat
For the residents whose idea of a good summer day involves no amphitheater at all, the pattern to know is that Thursdays and Sundays are the softest days at Gunstock, and mid-week mornings before 10 are the softest at Ellacoya State Park. The park itself gets a lot of press for its sand beach on the stunning natural backdrop of Lake Winnipesaukee, but the local trick is arriving with breakfast, not lunch.
June's Motorcycle Week is already behind us, but it's worth noting the trailing effect. The Gunstock Hillclimb took place Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Gunstock Mountain Resort, where amateur riders attempt the historic 70-meter Torger Tokle Memorial Ski Jump. That week reshuffles traffic patterns across the whole town for about ten days, and July is when the roads settle back into their normal rhythm.
Living here on purpose
The Pavilion and Gunstock are why a lot of people first came to Gilford. They're also, quietly, why some residents feel worn out by early August. The trick that separates a long-term Gilford summer from a short one is treating those two schedules as information, not as obstacles.
Know which Fridays to book dinner before 5. Know when the Adventure Park flips to weekend-only. Know that the Old Home Day 5K starts at the Village Store at 8 a.m. and the fireworks close out the day. Know that Beans & Greens is a Saturday-morning stop, not an afternoon one. That's the resident's calendar. It's not printed anywhere. It's the thing you learn by living here for a couple of summers, or by talking to someone who has.
